i’ve spent some time the last few days thinking about your upcoming birthday. besides the fact that i can’t believe i’m actually old enough to mother a twenty ( wow, that just sounds so grown up) year old i am truly loving watching you grow into the young woman that you’ve become. this last year especially, dad & i have couldn’t have been one ounce more proud of you.
you’ve been able to successfully walk a balance in your life that i believe is truly a challenge.
we’ve watched your love for the Lord become first and foremost in all you do. it’s evident in how you make decisions. it’s evident in how you love people. it’s evident in how you spend your money and what you chose to invest. it’s evident in how you spend your time. it’s just written all over the canvas of your life.
proverbs promises that if we as parents train up a child in the way he should go, when he grows up he will not depart from it.
you’ve heard me joke a
thousand few times that you came out of the womb fiercely independent. i tell my friends that who you are today has little to do with me. having said that, i look at you so often and i see a part of me maybe in how you respond to a situation. i understand when you need your space and the times when less details is better. other days i look at you and see the extrovert, ‘can do’ attitude and sharp wit from daddy gregg. i see the quest for wisdom and the desire to see the good in everyone you’ve watched in daddy as he truly has loved you as his own biological child. in essence you’ve got a little bit of all three of us wrapped inside your heart cheering you on and championing all you do.
and while you might have been born a strong and confident child, you have a sweet spot and a heart that loves very deeply.
i’ve learned so much from you sweet girl. i look forward to watching your life continue to unfold with so much excitement that i can hardly stand it. i’m endlessly thankful and count it as a daily blessing that i am not only savannah’s mama,
i’m savannah’s friend.
happy 20th birthday sweet girl
the best truly is yet to come…
