several weeks ago a precious friend gave me a priceless gift….a weekend at her beautiful home in watercolor florida. she offered dan & i a weekend away alone, but my sweet guy really can’t afford to take any more days during the school year after missing so many back in the fall both before & after his surgery. so a few days prior to christmas with the entire family was almost too good to be true.
its so weird how life’s events just shift your focus and cause your view to change in truly the blink of an eye. while today dan is healthy, the surgical scar is healing & faintly pink on his abdomen…and our biggest stress is how we’re going to afford to marry off four daughters one day! several weeks ago however, our biggest stress was what his story with colon cancer would include.
it was truly a miracle how we found it. his mama had it. she actually had several cancers and beat ’em all except for the last one. she survived uterine cancer in the 50’s. honestly. can you even imagine? i remember her telling me what her radiation was like back then. she & i both nurses and both aware of how tragic cancer was “back then” for sure. but she beat it and colon cancer decades ago & so we prayed my dan would be the same. but to look at another tall, dark & handsome strong, athletic 6’3″ man and wonder what the future would be sent me into a tail spin.
so when my precious friend called and offered her home as a respite after a rough season i could hardly believe it. i’ve always wanted to see my favorite little town seaside all dressed up for christmas. ( watercolor is seaside’s next door neighbor for those of you unfamiliar). we headed out after school friday & enjoyed a few days, despite dreary rainy weather, in my favorite little spot. i know some of my travel-loving daughters wondered why we chose the same place we vacation but honestly, i’d be content to see my favorite little beach spot as my destination for ever & ever.
her home is huge and gorgeous & just lovely. we really were spoiled in luxury! i ate shrimp & grits, shrimp po-boys, and a delicious breakfast at cowgirl kitchen and of course hit our fam fave-the red bar. i shopped my favorite spots-patchoulis, simple & perspicasity. i saw sand on my boots in winter for the first time & loved it. savannah , madison & i headed over to erika’s home for a quick visit. talk about an amazing home. i played it cool though & refrained from taking photos in her home like a wEirDo and only snapped one of the girlies as we hit the road. a precious visit with her precious family.
so. true story, the sun came out for like 7 seconds. no joke people. 7 seconds. i was actually photographing madi on the beach & the sun peeked out for a moment. then proceeded to come out as we packed the car. but that’s ok. i’ll take a rainy day there anytime! the kiddos hit the heated pool a couple times & had a few bike rides. dan & i spent lots of time hugging each other & feeling just thankful for being there.
here’s a few shots from our trip…”big girl” camera shots to follow.
