& just life. a very busy, full, good, exhausting, emotional life.

all in the last 60 days.

all the above in the last 60 days.

let me tell you what there’s not been in the last 60 days.

waking early with my soul rising to Him.

oh i’ve been waking early alright. but only to come down to my studio & get things rolling. answering emails, scheduling sessions, placing noonday orders, making sure all forms & such were filled out for my girls-each in four different schools. waking early to head to the gym or back out to work.

but no real time with jesus in the morning.

and no sabbath as many sundays not only did i shoot, but many i missed church so i could get in a rescheduled-due-to rain session.

not only is sabbath defined as a day of rest in the jewish or christian culture, it’s also defined as a period of rest.

my heart & soul have not been at rest. not because of worry or fear as many times that is what i allow to rob my heart & soul of rest, but just because of busy-ness and perhaps a tad of me overcommitting.  did you get that? stress, whether good or bad, will always be a part of lives. but we can choose how we’ll filter those into our day.

while this week marks the end of may which each year i sorta think will take. me. out. ha! and while a restful vacation is not on the calendar in the next several weeks, i will make a few changes to how i spend some of my morning time.

this week, she reads truth dropped a 5 song EP on itunes. it goes along with their current Hymms plan both available on line as well as via their app. ya’ll. these are beautiful. i can promise you if your soul is dry, listening to these powerful hymms will help usher you into a place of worship. a place where your soul can be nourished.

because i may never be able to say the following line again….when we were in africa together (still pinch me that trip occurred) raechel & i were sitting together at dinner while on the other side of the globe, the she reads truth app was launching!! ( raechel & amanda are two of the amazing gifted women behind SRT!). i have watched in AWE as this app & this website have made spending time in the word so easy. so relevant. and gosh, they even add beauty to go along with the studies. i text her often with stories from friends, young & old, of women who have been changed because of it! when she sent the preview of the EP i was running out the door to another session. my inbox was full & my floors were dirty. i probably should have shampooed my hair & spent some time with jesus first anyways. but i sat down. downloaded the file and mentally “shut-out” everything else. as ellie holcomb began to sing Amazing Grace i truly felt His grace just blanket me. blanket my busy mind. blanket my soul that was over-due for sabbath. blanket my failures & flaws. blanket my calendar of just so much the last 60 days.

i’m not sure what your calendar or your hair looks like but i’m betting this morning you can use some grace as well.

its there for the taking my friend. it’s there for the taking.

It is because of God’s grace that I am able to see my weakness, my pride, and my not-enough. It is His grace that is more than enough to meet and cover me in all my broken, messy places (2 Cor 12:9). And it is His grace that brings me rest, as He tenderly instructs my heart to worship Him alone (Ps 86:11).” ellie.SRT-Music_launch_share

so with the help of a few classic hymms, an amazing app on my iphone, as well as the inspiration from all the lovely art from my favorite, lindsay letters, i feel a total refreshing of my heart. i may not be resting on a chaise near the water or a beautiful woven hammock out back, but my heart can find rest.

i’d love to take a moment to give a shout out to lindsay. i found lindsay’s site a couple years ago & fell completely in love with her art. as i’ve gotten to know her a little more, i’m now completely smitten with her! she’s tender & generous. wildly talented. loves her little family & honestly, each season blows me away with her releases.  today i’m sharing pieces from her delicious spring line! the “my soul will rise” as well as the “peppermint moss abstract” canvases may be found here. shown in both of those are the largest options. & the “sweet sweet sabbath” print is on sale!

chrissi - probably because i am always late to the party, i had not heard of srt until you blogged about it. now i am a true addict. truly the best way for me to stop each morning and take a few minutes to gather my thoughts and heart in one place.
last night as i read ellie holcomb’s words and listened to her sing amazing grace i could not stop the tears. my cute husband thought i was upset with something at home. no, i was trapped in a minute of quiet gathering thoughts and trying to find grace. again.
thanks so much for sharing srt. life changer♥

Mimi - A servant’s heart yearns to be with God and what a wonderful gift that is — to miss Him. Your blog and honesty are a blessing to share your heart and yearning for Him. God bless!

tara - i am absolutely digging the color you’ve added to your home.
it makes such a statement with the clean white backdrop.

thankful for rest after a busy season. april and may looked very similar for us.
i felt like i was coming into the last day of school crawling on hot pavement with my fingernails dug in deep….thankful to be enjoying summer with the kids and andy.

ps. i’m SO late to the party, but where did you find your salt and pepper jars? i’ve seen them all over IG but never paid attention to where they came from.
