hiccups, hospitals & hutton

so last week, dan woke up in the middle of the night with hiccups.  which sounds sorta weird. i usually get hiccups if i drink my fizzy diet coke too fast. but whatever. well, by the end of 3 days and 3 nights of intermittent yet persistent hiccups i knew something totally weird was indeed going on.

i called our new-we-haven’t-seen-him-yet internist and they told me they really didn’t have a treatment for hiccups. well ok.

so i, against my better judgement ( i struggle with medical fear issues if you’ve missed the 8,305 times i’ve disclosed that dysfuntion) googled hiccups. well web-md says they basically could be nothing at all or they could be a symptom of many, and i do mean many, more serious issues. so i focused on the possibility it could be something serious and began to get a little knotted up.  plus, after 3 nights of dan sleeping in another room because while his hiccups didn’t interrupt his sleep, they most certainly interrupted mine.  throughout his super busy work day he would receive texts from me saying “status?”. meaning, tell me now- are you hiccuping and if so, how often and are you having any other weird symptoms?

we were one night of sleeping in separate bedrooms away from heading to the ER which, after making multiple calls to local md’s and minute clinics and receiving a plethora of  “how to treat hiccups” advice tips, was going to be last resort. when as quick as they started, they basically ended.  i’m happy to tell you we have resumed sleeping in the same room and the hiccups have now been gone for several days.

i’m sure you were on the edge of your seat for that ending. if you ever have an unusual round of intermittent persistent hiccups, i’m you’re information girl 😉

sunday afternoon my sweet friend jill was rolling through atlanta and had scheduled a photo session for all her kiddos. they were headed home to tennessee from spending fall break at the beach.  sweet hutton is a real life, modern day, miracle child.  for those who don’t believe He still performs miracles. that blond haired baby child is proof. she wasn’t supposed to live from the start. well she just kept fighting. and kept living. and she is FULL of life today having recently turned 4.  she recieved her heart transplant last year in philly however all her followup treatment is here at the children’s hospital in atlanta.  so lucky for me, i get to see my sweet friend multiple times a year.

so anyway, sunday afternoon,in south georgia, jill calls and tells me hutton has been vomiting for hours. they’re heading straight to the ER.  little one was started on oxygen and some meds.  jill’s folks drove in from tennessee and picked up the troops.  we called off the photosession.  next morning i headed over to visit my sweet friends & i’m happy to tell you they’ve since headed back home and she’s “all better”.

we’ve had the pleasure of having jill & hutton come to our home a few times recently. being majorly behind in blog posts i am now going to share some images from earlier visits this summer.

in july we celebrated hutton’s one year post transplant.  as you will see, everyone is completely smitten…

emi was away at camp for that visit, but thankfully was here when they came again in august…

i began blogging to have a place to journal and share my memories for my girls. meeting life long friends such as jill is truly the unexpected icing on the cake!! love you two!!

Katy - I always turn to web-md whenever something medically weird comes up. It’s a sure fire way to scare the wits out of you when it’s probably something simple. Glad it was something simple in your case. Thank you for sharing an inspiring story on such a beautiful child. Every child is a miraculous gift, but she is exceptionally special. Beautiful pictures!

Lemonade Makin' Mama - What a sweet post. I mean about Hutton. Not Dan’s hiccups. Poor guy. I think I told you that Adrain gets them when he is stressed and has to get muscle relaxers to make them stop. They are AWFUL. He can’t even talk and his blood pressure goes sky high. He sweats and nothing makes them stop. He hasn’t had them for a long time… thankfully and I’m so glad your man is okay. I know what you mean about focusing on the negative what ifs. I’m doing that myself today. I hate it but it’s hard to break out of it.

Love ya friend.

Amber - Sweet Paige… I am so glad to hear that Dan is hiccup free. I was saying a prayer for you guys once I googled it. Notice I didn’t text you back what all I found. HAHA… I too have a tendency to worry about all the fifteen hundred things it could or could not be. Love the story about that little ball of sunshine Hutton. What a cutie!
