i once was blind….then i met warby parker

yeah. well who knew?

it has become a bit of entertainment to challenge dan how far away he can be and still read a sign clearly ( like a hawk i tell ya) compared with how close we must be to a street sign ( right up on it. thankyouverymuch) for me to read it.

so i finally went for an eye evaluation. the doctor asks me how well i read. to which i tell him that i have no problem at all. i read everyday and spend a large amount of time on the computer, usually editing photos. i just can’t see far away.

well hows that going for you? …well sometimes the photos look a little blurry but i figure i just didn’t snap a clear shot.

um. no that’s your vision ma’am.

diagnosis astigmatism.

so… like a christmas miracle, at the same time i’m finding out about that situation, i hear about warby parker.

have you heard about Warby Parker?

well, this may be an incorrect comparison but they’re sorta like the TOMS of eyeglasses.

buy a pair. give a pair. and they are beyond totally hip.  hello.

95 bucks gets you your prescription glasses & free shipping. and the cherry on top is they allow you to try on 5 pair at home. free. their site has a virtual try on option too. what more can you want? ( well if you need bifocals then you’ll want to head elsewhere but other than that…)

so i ordered my 5 pair & could hardly wait for them to arrive. how weird is that? like i’m fired up excited about my newly diagnosed veritable blindness for the sole purpose of being able to wear warby parkers.

so i slapped up a little image on instagram & facebook and the winners were the ainsworth. i might just go back and order another pair of the mallory in blue marblewood because they are crazy funky. and what is a fashion statement if not funky?

so they arrive speedy quick. and i kid you not, the following is a true story.

so i put them on while standing in front of a mirror. i think that’s weird, there’s spots all over my chest. is something on my lenses? eeek! i had no idea how many freckles and sunspots were on my skin! after i recover from that discovery, i continue to walk through the house stunned, at my new vision.

well suffice to say i am thrilled and have been completely pleased with my entire experience with warby parker. madi has ordered her 5 to try on and i’m certain we’ll have another success story. minus the discovery of freckles and sunspots of course.

Lori H - When I got my first pair of glasses in 6th grade, I was so surprised to see the leaves on all the trees when we left the optometrist shop! Sort of like freckles and sun spots 🙂 your glasses look adorable, Paige. I now need glasses with trifocal lenses now (whomp whomp).

Amy Avery - I love the new speca on you Paige! Very hipster! I have an astigmatism too and so felt like you that I could read and all and see people just fine, so I thought. Then enter the glasses and, WOWZA! a whole new world emerged. I was like, “Good golly Miss Molly, I had no idea how dirty my house is!” Not until every dust bunny came into full focus with my new set of glasses. What i have found is that if I wear my glasses for a time, it will strengthen my eyes so to speak that I don’t need ot wear them all the time. I do wear them for fine tuned things like reading and watching TV and photo editing, oh and umm cleaning the house :-)! Enjoy! They are super cool! BTW, I tagged you on FB about a local news piece done on Hutton’s Hearts. I think one of your photo images of Hutton is actually seen in the news piece. Check it out if not just to see your dear sweet girl!

Kerri - Ok, I am literally on the floor because of the title of your post this morning. I started to read it and immediately started singing the hymn thinking you were going with a deep, thoughtful religious post…and then there it was: Warby Parker. Lol! That is why I love you! You have the best personality and it shines through! I really wish I had known about WP in December when I ordered new glasses. I think I mentioned it to you before, the 3rd grade teacher is rockin’ a pair of WP’s and they are super cute! I can’t wait to see what Madison chooses!

DNese - I’m going to have to try these out. Can I just say that they look adorable on ya?!!?! Too precious!

Michelle Fortik - I hadn’t heard of this company. I’m going to definitely look into them. The picture of you is darling! Love the glasses on you.

March 14, 2013 - 12:11 pm

Jennifer Buford - Warby Parker is like the huge deal on the floor where I work.
It’s hilarious because the men have more pair of glasses to coordinate with their suits than the women do!
Love them on you…like you could get even more adorable and BAM…SPECS do it!

Holly - Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting (and IGing–is that a word?) about Warby Parker! Your choice looks FAB on you–and hooray for seeing things more clearly.

I’ve been wanting to try the trendier *nerd* frames but have been chicken to order from other sites because you can’t try them on–I had never heard of Warby Parker, obvs. I just ordered my 5 to try and CAN NOT wait to see what they look like on me. I think the price and concept is wonderful–buy a pair and give a pair–and you can try before you buy.

My world is rocked.

Vickie - I too remember that “revelation” when putting on my 1st pair of glasses!! It’s almost like I had been in a haze until I put my new glasses on, then everything came to life before me. Enjoy your new found vision!! 🙂

March 14, 2013 - 3:52 pm

Sandy - Those look adorable on you . . . good pic. Isn’t it amazing how much more you can see with glasses . . I was like, where have I been. Really cute. I think I might try them. Blessings :O)

March 14, 2013 - 4:09 pm

Jen@thecottagenest - You look so cute in them! You chose well! I’m going to keep this info because just yesterday I was staring at a box of pumpkin waffle mix in my pantry trying to figure out what in the world spleed was when I leaned in closer and realized the word was spiced. Yep. Awesome. Yay getting old!

March 14, 2013 - 4:38 pm

Ella - I LOVE how you look in those glasses! Funny how you never realized about the astigmatism.
Of course right after reading this post I went to the Warby Parker website & did the virtual try-on with my photo. The ainsworth are definitely super cute.
Enjoy your new better vision.

Lemonade Makin' Mama - You’d be cute even if tape was wrapped around the center of those things. Just saying.

March 14, 2013 - 8:20 pm

Peggy - Oh Paige you look so cute! Okay… I was reading this post and my husband was getting really excited, because, well, he wears glasses. In fact he has worn glasses since he was two… yep 40 years of wearing glasses/contacts. Until he heard the words…”except for bifocals.) Yes, he was told at his last appointment he now needs bifocals… at 42 years old. Needless to say he wasn’t happy. But I’ll have to keep this in mind for when my prescription needs to be updated. Love, love, love your new glasses! (oh and freckles and sunspots are just signs of a life lived!)

Have a wonderful day!

March 15, 2013 - 12:17 am

susan - Love your new glasses. Will have to try that company for sure! Guess who I saw at Universal today? Your beautiful daughter Savannah. So funny to see someone from “blogland” randomly in person! Take care. 🙂

March 15, 2013 - 12:25 am

Destiny - You epitomize c.u.t.e! I have astigmatism too, and got excited at the thought of checking this, new-to-me, site out. (I have a “real” pair of glasses, and then I have a pair from Zenni Optical that cost just a little jingle, but they are so u.g.l.y that my boys won’t let me wear them out of the house. I get it … I tried to pass them off as funky, and they were not having it!) Unfortunately, I have crossed over to bifocal, so this isn’t an option for me.

I’ve been wearing glasses since freshman year in high school, and I remember telling my mother that I didn’t realize that the wallpaper in our living room had a pattern the first day I came home with them on.

Boys DO make passes at girls who wear glasses. Mine’s been doing it for more than twenty-five years!

March 15, 2013 - 1:34 am

Claudine - Omg this post was so funny! I totally relate, I need to try those! I just have one boring pair that cost me more than $400… At a local LensCrafters …
You look adorable in your new glasses!

March 16, 2013 - 1:05 am

Alecia - Soooo cute!!! I do love Warby Parkers…I’ve wanted glasses since I was a kid…I think I’d be just as excited as you are if I was told I needed glasses! Great pic…they look fantastic!

March 16, 2013 - 11:29 am

Susan R. - The glasses look great on you. I followed along and ordered 5 to try. I can’t wait to see how they look. Thank you for sharing the info.

March 18, 2013 - 5:22 pm

bethanie - Yeah, I went to the eye dr. because I hadnt been since third grade. I told him I could see pretty good…same story as you…astigmatism and I couldnt see diddly! 🙂 I said, “so I just need these for reading, right?” and he said, “yes, and driving. and eating. and walking. you get it!” I am so going to check this out. Just love the concept!!
