the cheerleaders

these two sisters are about as different as night & day.
for those of you who have been lead to believe our home, with 4 girls, is always smooth sailing,
let me set the story straight.
these 2, born 17 months apart,
are almost always snapping at each other.
i don’t have a sister, but rumor has it,
they’ll be best of friends.
one day.
for the first time in all our years of cheering,
two girls finally cheered on the same squad
with the same schedule.
& while i am certain they snapped and argued and rolled eyes at each other
i’m hoping they learned a little about each other
& maybe grew to love each other a tiny bit more.
maybe.
saturday will be their last competition together.
& then, besides a few obligations for varsity, they’re basically done.
while being in season makes life really hectic,
i’m always sad when it’s over.
i still miss watching savannah cheer & perform at her competitions.
madison came home from practice yesterday with what looks like a broken nose.
she’s got a little shiner to go with it too.
i will call the doctor in a little while & find out what we should do.
not that there is really anything to do as far as the broken aspect,
but safety issues for the rest of the week & their competition & decisions need to be made.
ugh.

she has a very heavy academic load
& was already loaded down this week.
i think she told me she has 9 tests or quizzes.
madi takes her academics very seriously & i can tell she’s got a lot on her mind.
if any of you have a moment, while it’s not life or death,
i would love for you to pray for her.
i humbly thank you in advance.
& for posterity, 583 photos….

Sharon - Ugh…my daughter broke her nose in cheerleading too…just days before her confirmation! She had surgery and a splint to keep it straight but always had to be careful not to get a foot to the nose again! Good luck getting the nose checked out. Love the photos, brings back such fun memories of my “cheer mom” days!

Pine Tree Home - Pics bring back such fond memories of the freedom of youth. Even though tests, quizzes and practice were plentiful, there is nothing like that time of life.

Kelli - I love your 583 pictures…keep 'em coming. I will lift Madison up in prayer…I adore that she takes her academics seriously. I'm actually thinking of signing Jamison up for cheer.

Heather - Love the cheer pics! Love you keepin it real on the blog… I have to admit that from the outside looking in… it looks like all roses with your 4 sweet girls. Been meaning to ask you to write a post about tricks of the trade with preteen and teenage girls! My 7th grader, miss middle…. well…. I might not survive her! 😉 and I've got another one coming right behind her! So anytime you want to touch on that subject with your wisdom and experience…. go right ahead! 🙂

Shannon - Poor Madison!! I broke my nose in high school and had to have surgery to reset it. It is not one of my best times in high school that is for sure 😉 I'll be praying it isn't that bad for her!!!
Thank you for sharing that your 2 girls aren't the best of friends quite yet, I was beginning to think you were the luckiest mom in the world and never had to deal with any teenage attitude!

Lemonade Makin' Mama - Absolutely beautiful.

Susan R - Oh man…so many thoughts here. First, broken noses. I'm the queen of broken noses. I've broken mine twice. Once as a child while I was goofing around on the couch and once in jr. high school (got hit with a basketball). If I remember correctly, both breaks produced black eyes (sure sign of a break). I had to see the doctor to have it reset both times.
As for those girls. Man alive, they can jump and jump high…it must be nice to be so limber.
I bet they will be best friends when they get older.

Tori - I was a cheerleader almost all through school. I know the pressures that your girls have on them. Praying that they live and the moment and try to be as worry free as possible. The memories are endless!

Lindsey - My cousin is a cheerleader for her school, so I've gotten to see first hand all that goes into it. It's not near as “easy” as I thought it was that's for sure!

Praying for both of your girls to be able to give 100% in everything that they do. Hope the injury heals quickly as well!

LORA ERNEST - I said a prayer for Madison. My oldest son broke his nose and his eye socket. His eye was different shades for a week:) He had to have surgery.

My sister and I are 4 years apart. When we were in high school, we fought alot. We've had some tough times in our adult lives but definitely turn to each other. I know your girls will too.

Alisa - My “baby” cousin, Jordan Dawson, was the kicker for the football team at Parkview many years ago. I am a 1988 South Gwinnett graduate. I am now a mommy of two girls here in the great state of South Carolina. I was a cheerleader all four years of high school. My girls, although quite girly, don't want to have anything to do with cheerleading…oh well. It is fun to see all your pics…brings back the memories!

October 19, 2011 - 2:22 am

Farmgirl Paints - Girl you rock action shots. So not easy. Your girls are lovely. Makes me wish I was in high school again.

October 19, 2011 - 4:45 am

Wendy @ The Shabby Nest - I just love seeing these pics of your girls cheering. I was a cheerleader for 3 years, and these pics always make me nostalgic. Our colors were even red and white. I just loved cheerleading. And I'm hoping my daughter will follow in my footsteps (I don't think she'll need too much prodding, though.)

Oh, and just a note…my younger sister and I are just 19 months apart…fought like cats and dogs…and now? I absolutely could not live without her. She's my best friend in the world. So, trust me when I say, they'll come around. 🙂
