family day & a job offer

this past saturday was one for the books. we celebrated with savannah at her final AXO event. technically it was daddy daughter day but we decided everyone could tag along for this!

at the risk of sounding like an old cliche record played over & over, her four years at UGA flew by. i vividly remember sitting at a coffee house with dan while she rushed and getting calls & texts about sorority decisions. now this coming august we’ll do it all over again with emily! fun fun times for sure!! this weekend was the first time back in athens since emily was accepted so it was extra sweet!

for those of you guys not familiar, athens georgia is the quintessential college town. not only is it the home of THE university of georgia, it’s been ranked as one of the best college towns & art destinations. with historic homes lining the streets & fabulous dining options, great night spots & music options there is much buzz around the town.

emi just purchased a selfie stick so iPhone photo taking skills just stepped up a notch or four. it was the spring G-day game so several times i had to remind myself that it was april not august. easy to be confused as we sat there in 90 degrees cheering on the dawgs!

caroline even declared her love for UGA and told us she’d love to go there one day! amen little bit, amen!!

one of my favorite must-do things when i hit athens is to drop by philanthropy & say hello to the owner, dara. dara & her hubs paul are such good people who have done much for the community. i’ll come back & share a little more about them in a bit. but you simply must head into the shop. what you can’t see behind us is a giant tree from her yard inside the shop. as well as beautiful home decor & an excellent source of all things hip & wonderful!!

the shot on the right–why are all my friends thin with fabulous buff arms? –is one of my besties from high school. jami & her twin sister lori and i were inseparable back in the day.  besties from about 8th grade on. lori & i skipped graduation practice and were almost not allowed to walk. rebels. all we basically did was drive around town in my toyota playing the radio really loud & feel super cool. we were all in each others weddings & then started having babies at the same time. its so awesome because now we each have kiddos attending UGA. lori’s daughter is carli shultis, one of the studs on the womens soccer team and younger sissy sydney is about to roll in & do the same. jami’s son jonah plays football. hopefully our kids won’t follow in our lets blow off graduation shenanigans!

as we walked to the game i looked up & the bookends were linked together. another one of those mama moments were i basically had to decide to hold back the bittersweet tears.  life is all good & wonderful but transitions are just tough. even in the good, transitions are tough. family dynamics continue to change, what feels like daily, when your kids hit this age. and it’s beautiful to cheer them on but there must just be something inside every mama’s heart that remembers that day you brought the first one home from the hospital. remember how precious and delicious those overwhelming days are and then seeing that baby all grown up & interviewing for jobs on the other side of america will just about rip your heart out.

savannah has accepted an awesome job as a brand manager for newell rubbermaid you guys! and by awesome i mean awesome!! she’s heading into the corporate world complete with a salary and a benefits package. i am so freaking proud of her i’m beside myself.

the next several weeks we have much good going on for the girls. i apologize in advance if my frequent shoutouts become a little too much. these sorta things don’t happen just everyday.

& i just about forgot…her corporate job is in atlanta! thank you jesus!! lord knows i can only handle so much change at one time!!!

sandra - You are so right about Athens!! We love that town….and for all the feelings you have – well, I’m right there with you. My oldest will be graduating in 2016 and we are already visiting colleges. It truly is bittersweet. I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it….even though I am SO so proud of her! Fun times….I just hope these sweet kids of ours will cherish them always. It seems like it’s gone by so fast and I don’t want them to miss a thing!

chrissi - reading your blog these years has made me a bit sweet on your lovely state. your photos of athens and the college life makes me think i should of considered the south all those years ago.
you do georgia so well and they would me smart to hire you to take some tourist shots to lure us there on a vacay. it looks like a great destination.
cheers to your girls for each working so hard to reach their goals. great work mom and dad.

Amy - Paige, this is awesome. Great memories!
I am planning my son’s graduation party and I remember a post you shared about someone hosting an outdoor sit down dinner – for either prom or homecoming. I thought it sounded so classy and loved the idea. Do you have any pics of that? Thanks!!
