he chose us

it was the most gorgeous, perfect day. the idyllic beach day i dream of all year long. the water was crystal clear and calm. not a cloud in the sky. the girls were playing paddle ball with dan. i was knee deep in Kisses from Katie and emotionally spent as i read each page. i had just found out that morning that i didn’t make the team that would head to Uganda with Passion. {yes, you had to apply. sorta like rush for a mission trip}. anyway, my thoughts were all wrapped around the dichotomy of enjoying this blessing of a day , full of abundance, in Seaside and yet wanting to head to Uganda and Rwanda while reading about Katie.

i was sitting under an umbrella, tears on the brims of my lashes as i glanced up to watch my little family. overwhelmed by His grace and abundance towards me, especially in the gift of Dan. dan knows how much i love seaside. he knows i wanted to head to Uganda later that summer. he knows everything about me. every secret. every dream. every failure. i’ve shared it all with him.

after Gregg died i never prayed for a new husband. maybe part of me didnt’ want to look for God to “fix” my situation in that way. maybe i feared my heart would be so consumed wanting to be loved again that that would become a focus.in spite of myself, he sent me Dan. he adopted the girls and legally became their daddy. he chose us. all four of us. together.

i watched dan out in the water with the girls and prayed that i would never ever take any of all of this for granted. He sent dan to the girls and me and we’ll grow old together.  he’s the soul mate i pray each of my girls finds in their forever love one day.

happy birthday dan. i love you more today than yesterday. but not as much as tomorrow.
