leah~a senior session and the story of a survivor

i’ve known susan since her daughter & my madison were in preschool together… which was right around the time susan received a double lung transplant. now 12 years later, susan is doing great!

susan was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was five. the doctors told her parents they should expect her to live only another five years. at age 40 susan is one of the oldest surviving, thriving, survivors. you can read about her story and the foundation she created here.

susan & keith’s only daughter plans to head to florida after she graduates next spring and become a marine animal trainer.

when i asked susan if i could share a little bit about her personal story, here’s her reply~~”Feel free to post on your blog about how well I am doing 12 years post transplant. Even though I am in need of a kidney, I thank God every day for the blessing he gave me. I tell people God gave me all my really good blessings and they came from Florida: Leah was adopted from FL, Keith was born in FL, and my lungs came from Florida!”

Kerri - Good Morning my sweet friend! As I sit here on a Monday morning waiting for my students to arrive, I am touched by your beautiful pictures and Susan’s beautiful story. Susan and I are the same age, yet my girls are still little, I am touched by how God has saved this beautiful woman and she has become a wife, a mother and a friend. I saw these pictures on Facebook, but didn’t know the story. Lovely!I hope you had a great weekend! XOXO

Lori H - Beautiful photos, Paige! My father is a retired pediatrician whose specialty was CF so I am aware of how devastating that diagnosis can be, and of all the wonderful strides they have made in dealing with that disease. Years ago, many of his patients were lost too young but now he has attended wedddings and birthday parties that speak to a much improved outlook. So glad to hear that Susan is doing well!

Michelle - Beautiful pictures! My brother-in-law had CF and was also a double lung transpant recipient and years later received a kidney from his father. He was a remarkable man. A loving husband and father. We lost Jim 6 years ago to stomach cancer. So cruel to have battled and win a life long illness to be taken by cancer! He is truly missed. SO happy to hear that Susan is doing well!

tara - I love her story of survival.

My mom has a terminal lung disease, and she has missed her opportunity for a double lung transplant…too thin, too old, not healthy enough.

C.O.P.D. is a horrible disease…..the only good thing that has come out of it for our family is that my mom has grown ever so close to Jesus. She is living proof that God takes everything and makes it good in his time.

Their daughter is beautiful…
