compass: instrument for determining directions
&
filter:pass or slip through slowly
earlier this fall i felt i needed to create a compass.
i wanted to define clearly a way to determine my efficiency in the three most important areas of my life. or honestly, the three areas of my life.
1. how i relate to others. do i love well? when i look back on my actions or my motives did i truly love the other person well. was i compassionate & loyal? how can i serve that person? did i encourage them?
2. how am i living out the gifts and talents the lord gave me? i want to be a good steward. i want to live creatively out of these gifts.
3. and most importantly, how is my relationship with the lord? am i seeking first his ways? his kingdom? am i in prayer? am i letting my mind focus on whatever is good & pure? is he coming first in all i do?
and these three filters overlap. for example. love well & live creatively? how can i bless someone at a photo session? do i budget in giving in my work? am i sharing what i know about artisans & fair trade? poverty alleviation? am i advocating through my noonday? do i boast in my strengths ( gifts & talents) or do i daily thank jesus for them and ask how can i best steward them?
so i came up with this: love well. seek wisdom. live creatively. clearly not in order of importance 😉
i had savannah write it out on my chalkboard early this fall as a daily reminder. the picture above was from the summer as there’s currently a big fat cinderella pumpkin on that table & soon to be Christmas decor but i wanted to go ahead & share. my blog has been so neglected the last few months so i apologize for the lack of consistancy. below are some completely unrelated images but a few from around the house earlier this fall. i’m heading back to bed as this flu or strep throat or whatever it is has kicked my tail. i have a full day ahead & a really really special event tonight that i’ll share about hopefully later this week.
be blessed my friends. go forth & live with intention!
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Amy Avery - These words you shared, Paige, are so encouraging to read. We all have gifts and talents that were given to us to not just hide under a bushel but to share. Sometimes I think we forget that we were all created to share and encourage each other through our gifts just as you do always with those of us who know you. I’m inspired by these words here and I thank you for sharing, and encouraging and loving on all of us. You are an excellent steward of your gifts and talents.
martha - love your compass , Paige, and the chalkboard reminder….

wynne - i love you friend – you challenge me and encourage me and i love this post.
