sorority girls come home. i need to learn spanish & crowder itunes

doesn’t it seem that the further along we roll into may, the more your body seems to be saying….”please bring on summer”?!

as much as i’d love to tell you i rise before the dawn & get my day going, it’s a painful shock to my body when dan wakes me each morning at 6am before he heads off to work. obviously i just gave away the secret that i don’t make him a hot breakfast. like ever. but atleast i’m out of bed (most days) before all the girls & that my friends, is a true labor of love. mama needs her 10 8 hours of sleep.

as evidenced by the plethora of colorful sorority comfort- colors tshirts added to my laundry inventory,  savannah is back home! she’ll be here only about 3 weeks before she heads out for her summer intensive discipleship program. each of you who purchased glittered monogram canvases &  painted states helped make that dream a possibility for her. & i thank you!!

she lived in her sorority house this year & loved it. i know it surely was a tender few days as all those girls packed up & pulled away.

in other news….ya’ll were so cute about yesterday’s basic wordless post. the teal blouse several of you emailed about was from free people. the funky cross necklace was made by browneyedfox a few years ago. look her up on instagram. you’ll love her. the two piece dress emi was modeling is a sherri hill prom gown. ( who knew a two piece “gown” was all the rage…supposedly a HUGE seller this year) madison had produced a fashion show at their school and emi was one of the models.

speaking of fashion. don’t laugh…but over the next few weeks i’ll be creating videos for jeanne oliver’s summer ecourse series. she asked if i’d talk about summer fashion.  i’ll share riveting things like how to stack your arm accessories and the joys of hip shoes. so stay tuned for more information on that!

meanwhile. i’ve been in such a fun season of photoshoots. weddings, engagement sessions & senior photos. so fun! thankful for clients who have become repeat clients & friends. thank you rebecca for always encouraging me! rebecca here…she’s just worked her a%@ off and lost 50 pounds. old school. eating less & exercising more! way to go girl!!!

in other exciting news. i’m beyond fired up & excited to tell ya’ll i’ll be traveling with jessica & a few other noonday ambassadors to guatemala!!! hopefully dan can teach me some basic spanish between now & august.

i mentioned a few weeks ago i headed to birmingham to help photograph a wedding. one of my favorite friends lives there so i was able to crash at her gorgeous home. two nights in a row! ashley is a super busy entrepreneur yet she always finds time to encourage and always finds time to make sure we stay connected. what a blessing that is. i want to be better about that. she lives in another state and yet we get together on a regular basis….i fail at that with friends that live here in atlanta.

she even sent home shwings for caroline! chuck taylor fans, rise up & adorn your converse…how cute are they?

we’ve had a big change in afterschool logistics…especially for caroline. she left dance back in january & has worked her tail off to prepare for & try out for a competitive cheer squad. she just made allstar level 3 & began practice last night. the gym is a little bit of a hike for us but i’m very excited about the year ahead for her. way to go little bit!!

pictured below are the first times she was ever put up in a stunt.

we are not a jetset traveling family. we’re not. it just so happens that there are a few trips in the works. madi just got home from california where she competed in DECA nationals!

and to wrap up my random post i have 3 words for you.

crowder itunes session

go download now sister. david crowder singing Old Rugged Cross will blow you away.

you can thank me later

the end

one last word. i’m sharing today about the highlights in our lives. i’m not ( in this post) sharing about the trials. and please don’t think that a post about the highlights is real life-everyday-all the time. i’ve chosen to not share about the argument with one of my girls which lasted for a few days. i’ve chosen to not discuss an ongoing medical situation for one of the girls. i’ve chosen to not share about a few other moving-parts of ongoing issues/concerns. this is just the highlights.

i am overwhelmed by the friends in my life who are currently going through crisis.  a dissolved engagement, a newly diagnosed ovarian cancer/surgery & upcoming chemo, an friend from ‘long ago’ who reached out to ask if i’d like to see her–she’s currently undergoing chemo for breast cancer. i have a friend dealing with anxiety. the list goes on & on. i do not take the gift of any day that we’re given lightly.

again, hear me say, please don’t ever mistake a highlights post for the illusion that life is perfect. all the time.

none of  us knows what’s right around the corner. i want to engage in where i am each day , whether it’s celebrating with a friend or loving on one my girls as they have a day of success. our teens, especially, are constantly beat down. i want to cheer them on whether its a sophmore year at UGA well lived or a trip to cali or whatever. i want them to see me celebrating them. they get enough of the other crap. ( sorry) so yes, i share about the good in them.

anyways. just wanted to make sure ahead of time that we’re all good…thank ya’ll for spending any moments at all to read here on simple thoughts…

i love ya’ll!!

Lori H - Paige, I love all your posts, the highlights and the occasional sharing of worries, etc. I feel you are very honest in your posts and hope that you don’t get negative comments from those who are, let’s face it, probably jealous/envious. Does your friend Ashley have a blog? If that photo is a glimpse of her house, I would love to see more! After work I will download the Crowder session – it seems like I have to figure out I-tunes anew every time I use it 🙂

May 8, 2013 - 8:32 am

simone - Love this post Paige….and love too what you say about sharing the “highlights”….very well put.

And….you’re going to Guatemala, hello???!!!! How exciting!! X

May 8, 2013 - 8:36 am

Susan - Sweet friend, I LOVE the highlights! We all deal with the other stuff, so it’s truly refreshing to see and hear beautiful and positive things! Headed to my clean back porch (scrubbed the pollen off yesterday….but you didn’t see the yuck) to spend some quiet time with HIM. Hope your day is awesome….will listen to DC afterwhile….thank you!!

May 8, 2013 - 8:51 am

Lindsey - I love it! Laughed out loud at the part about your laundry being taken over by a “plethora of colorful sorority comfort- colors tshirts.”

May 8, 2013 - 9:09 am

Julie - LOVE that your sharing the things that make you happy… the only other alternative is to sit in a pit of despair. We do not have to let the enemy win. People who have lived a lot of life understand that blessings come in all shades, and that to focus on the happy ones is good for the soul.

May 8, 2013 - 9:20 am

denise smith - Paige… your heart is gold! Your truth so real! and your excitement for the important things in life are just few things that make you stand out amongst the STARS in my life!

May 8, 2013 - 9:21 am

Michelle Whitaker - As always I just love your posts. You are one step ahead of me with many of the things in your life such as college etc… but we also have so much in common- 4 kids, goldens, love for Jesus, cheerleading, nursing and love for home decor just to name a few. One of my daughters is going with our church on a mission trip to Guatemala this summer. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and passions. It is such a treat to read your blog.

May 8, 2013 - 9:50 am

Barbara - We all must deal with challenges, but highlighting the positives is a great way to keep in mind how much we have to be grateful for. Thanks for sharing the bright spots in your life!!

May 8, 2013 - 9:50 am

Tracey H. - Oh Paige, there are no other ways to describe you other than awesome and honest!! The good in life should always be celebrated and frankly we all have “bad types of things” in our lives and they aren’t for everyone to need to know! Thank you for being you:0) I love reading your blog in the morning, starts my day off right!!

May 8, 2013 - 10:03 am

DNese - I for one LOVE your posts/highlights that I hope you NEVER stop sharing. Every reader should be smart enough to know that we all go through things and nothing is perfect. That’s just life. I like to come to blog land (specifically your blog) to read about all the positives going on. Our world is turning to dirt, so I no longer watch the news. If every blog we visited daily only spoke of the bad going on-then we’d never escape from the darkness. Besides, we love your blog/your family and your stories, but we also understand that most issues are very private and not to be talked about. It’ just respect towards family/friends. When the bad stuff is shared, we love that too because we all feel like part of your family and you trust us to know the ins and outs. At the end of the day- you’re doing the best you can and WE LOVE YA FOR IT! I don’t’ know you personally and probably will never meet you, but I come here every single morning because I love your posts. Your blog offers much happiness. And girlfriend you’ve got style! Your girls got style and Dan be rockin’ a good look, too. I LOVE the fashion sense in your family. You post at the perfect time and hit with each post. Your house is beautiful as well as your spirit, soul and family. Keep on posting just as you do. You give me hope. That I can tell ya. I’m newly married, but nowhere near where I should be YET. You offer promise. It’s strange how a blog can do that. Ok, I’ve wrote enough. Have a blessed day and thank you again for being you.

May 8, 2013 - 11:13 am

Lemonade Makin' Mama - I love your highlights… and I love your sensitivity to the low points. You are a sweetheart.

I love that you are going to Guatemala! I can’t wait to read all about it! I also can’t wait to see your cute videos!! That will seriously make my day. 🙂

May 8, 2013 - 11:25 am

Jill - Love your highlights! PS – Bought my 86yo mama a pair of Toms for Mother’s Day. I hope she likes them! Thankfully, we wear the same size…..

May 8, 2013 - 11:26 am

Melissa - Love that you focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative. For sure celebrate each small victory! I am going to Guatemala this summer as well! in July with my church for a short term mission! Is that where Noonday is made? Now I am even more intrigued to start selling.

May 8, 2013 - 1:55 pm

tiffany day - first, I want to hug you!

I appreciate your sharing what you did at the end of your post – highlights are so very important and celebrating our kids is as well! Sometimes I think all I could share are my trials, which ofent times pale to those around me and what they are going through. And sometimes our trials are ours and we have do get through them the best we can.

I honestly try and not make assumptions when I read here or elsewhere – because I know I don’t want anyone who happens to read my blog do the same – blogs aren’t always the whole picture and we have to remember that and not make assumptions. This today from you, was a good reminder for me!

I have had such a heavy heart lately and with my son turning 15 feeling a bit weepy(in such good ways mostly) and knowing we aren’t alone in trials – really does help – sharing our journey how ever we choose really does matter – it keeps human connection going and that to me, is so important!

I hope this somehow makes sense!!

Have a lovely day Pagie!

love to you

Mindy - Your highlights are wonderful to read. Our daughter was a cheerleader and now is a cheer coach at our local high school so I remember those stunts well! (And she has your same pair of Tom’s!) David Crowder is amazing and his music leads me to Jesus in times of highlight or lowlight just the same. Looking forward to posts on Guatemala : )

May 8, 2013 - 2:34 pm

Michelle - Love your post today. . . You have an amazing way of sharing highlights with true authenticity. A gift to many who read your blog.!

May 8, 2013 - 3:03 pm

Kellie - Yes! Celebrate those girls! Sounds like they all have exciting things going on. I feel ya about the trek to the gym. We changed to one about 30-40 min away, but it’s worth the drive when I see my girl thriving there. Our next two weeks are ALL cheer with All Star and high school tryouts. I feel like everything I see is blue after being in the gym so much! Ha!

May 8, 2013 - 3:07 pm

Kim from 3 peanuts - Hi Paige,

I had a few minutes and am catching up over here. I love all of your highlights and I love your honest heart. I too try to always let people know that things are messy in life even if they don’t look that way on the blog;)

Such exciting things for everyone in your family. So happy for all of you!

May 8, 2013 - 3:39 pm

Mary Ducharme - Paige, I’m guessing that those of us who follow your blog are well aware of the reality of life. Your blog is mostly like a gratitude journal and we can all get to enjoy your perspective and hopefully realize our own gratitude. And, when you need to vent, we are all happy to be here for you.
So happy for you that you will get to travel to Guatemala with your friend, so exciting! My oldest daughter will also be going to Guatemala within the next year,(just not sure exactly when yet. She is a PA student and will be doing a service trip to work in a medical clinic. It would be great if she were there at the same time as you. I’ld have her try to find where you are because she always hears me refer to you, and your blog, as if we were friends who actually knew each other. 🙂

May 8, 2013 - 4:06 pm

Karen H. - Love seeing all of the highlights! Thank you for sharing your beautiful family and life in pictures – your posts are one of the ‘highlights’ in my day:) Can’t wait to see your video on Jeanne’s blog!

May 8, 2013 - 4:35 pm

Peggy - oh okay a little honesty here… i cried while listening to this rendition of the old rugged cross! It is probably one of my all time favorite songs!! thank you for sharing!

and the tom’s do you find them super comfy? i’m a birk girl myself (wide feet, bad arches, occasional plantar faciitis flare-up) but i fell in love with the looks of tom’s. our middle son has a pair and LOVES them. Any thoughts?

and congrats on the course!! I know you are just the person to teach it!!

May 8, 2013 - 5:00 pm

heather - Paige, I love your posts and your authenticity as well. As a mom with four kids I love to sit and read the highlights and beautiful pictures. You are a breath of fresh air!

May 8, 2013 - 11:46 pm

Katherine @ Grass Stains - Paige, I love reading what you write, whether it’s highlights, prayer requests or about people I don’t even recognize. It’s a shame that you have to “apologize” at the end of a post that just celebrates some of the goodness in life … longtime readers know that you have had your share of tragedy, health stressors and myriad other things. If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just don’t want to talk about them at the moment, simply because talking (writing) about them makes you THINK about them — and sometimes you just really want to focus on the good.

You just keep doing what you do. It’s why we come here. 🙂

May 9, 2013 - 6:08 am

Jen Pighini - I love reading about your highlights! But I do appreciate your honesty and “keeping it real” too. I am SO happy for you to be traveling to Guatemala! I cannot wait to read all about that adventure!

May 9, 2013 - 2:12 pm

Debbie - I’ve followed your blog for a while now… the photography and watching your beautiful family grow.
I have a bit of a “technical” question for you….I believe you converted to WordPress this year…I work at a small elementary school and we have our website on a WordPress platform (we have someone who set it up for us). We are now looking at adding videos and I know you sometimes have some on your site. Is this something easy to do……I am questioning the time and $ that our provider is quoting us to have this capability on our site.
I know you are busy…but I would love to hear from you when you have a moment.
Thank you so much……….

May 9, 2013 - 5:27 pm

tara - love your heart.
love that you care so much about your readers that you’d take time to remind us that life isn’t pink and perfect at your house…
you’re thoughtful and caring, Paige. 🙂

on a side note…way to go little bit!

May 11, 2013 - 9:53 am

jodi - always love that you share the highlights of the Knudsen family. Guatemala!!!OMG, how exciting and what a awesome experience! 🙂

May 11, 2013 - 9:32 pm

Flower Patch Farmgirl - I love you and every bit of your life. I love the way you share those highlights and remind us that there’s more to the story. You are radness.
