Who in your life has loved you and cared for you?”
Through tears she said, “No one.
This is the first time for me to ever even share my story.”
allow me to introduce olivia.
olivia was literally starving to death when she came to African Style ( the ugandan name for our jewelry group).
at age three, her mama died. her father began to sexually abuse her for the next 10 years until she ran away. she then was “hired” as a house girl in Kampala. olivia was expected to work from very early in the morning until late at night. she was not allowed to eat while she was there ….and she was never paid. (sadly not uncommon in uganda). which left begging for food for both herself and her toddler age daughter her only option.
since being employed by African Style/Noonday, Olivia now makes not only enough to feed her baby girl, she makes enough money to rent her own room.
And now, she has family;
some one to hear her, to listen to her and to say to her,
“You have worth. God has not forgotten you.”
this is olivia
this is her beautiful face
her baby girl is named rachel
olivia is no different from you or me, except for the country in which she was born. a place where poverty itself can attempt to steal, kill & destroy her. her hope. her future. it can be a daunting task to even try to wrap your mind around all that poverty can do. and all the millions it touches every day. but what is not daunting is realizing that we can change the life of one in so many ways.
she is someone
she has a home and a family
olivia represents exactly why i have a passion for Noonday.
the above necklace is one of my top three favorites from our new spring line
& it’s called the olivia….

what great love the Father has lavished on us,
that we should be called children of God!
