the bookends & imagine dragons

imagine dragons 03816

savannah was 8 years old when caroline was born. not only does savannah exhibit true first born characteristics, i guess because her daddy died at such a young age, she’s always seemed a little more grown up in many areas of her life. so when a third little sister was added to the mix, it was like having a second little mommy. all my girls are very maternal. recently i was shooting a family shoot & caroline entertained the toddler while i photographed big sissy.  i thought it was so funny when the mama said  “all your girls are like baby whisperers”. too funny. so when i brought caroline home from the hospital, almost 13 years ago, it truly was like having built-in nannies. savannah would hold her for me in the sweetest, most tender way. a natural. they’ve grown up with a fun connection & friendship. we started calling them the bookends a few years ago & i love that little nickname.

being the youngest of a house full of girls, each with very distinct fashion style, creating ones own can be a bit tricky. “care”, as we often call her, has developed the coolest little style. i can assure you i was far from this hip at twelve. she came home from school the other day & told me how one of her friends gave her a little grief because her red toms didn’t match her black & white graphic tee. i told her she should have responded with something along the lines of, “it’s called effortless chic and matching colors are not the boss of me”. she then told me -it’s ok mom. i told her my red shoes were my pop of color. the end. confidence is the key to success people.

caroline’s skinny jeans & chuck taylors. flowy blouses & pendant necklaces. combat boots & a moto jacket.urban outfitters.indie style. and her temperment is as laid back as her style.

for christmas caroline’s biggy gift was tickets to see her fave band, imagine dragons. she loved them last summer way before they were all the rage. apparently she can pick some good tunes as well. i bought her two tickets & we put sisters names all in a bowl & she drew a winner. i gotta give it to savannah, who won, for lobbying quite a convincing case of knowing all things imagine dragons.

savannah drove in from athens & they planned their hipster ensembles. ( it’s a good thing when  your 21 year old raids your closet looking for something concert worthy-the 84 t was a forever 21 score and might be the year i graduated from highschool). savannah had caroline do her makeup for her as well. (it’s a good thing when the aforementioned 21 year old thinks her mom’s clothes are cool and lets her little sis give her a makeover).

things are far from smooth sailing under our roof at all times but it is an immeasurable gift to see my girls truly enjoy each other.

Jill - I love sister relationships – those photos are precious!

We love Imagine Dragons around here too! A soon to be 12 year old that lives with me will be getting tickets to Katy Perry for her birthday – I might have to go to Forever 21 and see if they have an ’85’ shirt for me to wear! 😉

Beth - My girls are 3.5 years apart and I hope they remain half as close as all your girls. I’ve always said God gave me sisters to raise bc I had yucky brothers growing up! It’s absolutely heart warming to see them play and love on each other!I love your posts about your girls so please keep sharing!

Sandy - I would come to Georgia if your girls would style me and do my make up. I am a complete disaster in the style department.

judy - i’m sure they were the two prettiest girls at the concert! i’m amazed at caroline’s hair…so pretty! i remember a few years ago when you posted that she had a bit of a problem growing her hair out…it looks like that little problem got solved in such a beautiful way!

thank you for sharing caroline’s outfit….my little “almost” 10 year old granddaughter is going to see Jason Aldean in Gulf Shores in a couple of weeks and she’s trying to decide what to wear…i’ll show her this pic. she’s spending the night with us tonight…so we can do some major spoiling. i think she’s decided on boots and a jeans jacket for part of the outfit…maybe mimi (that would be me!) will take her shopping!

marcie - Great pics! Love Imagine Dragons and especially the way she chose which sister to take along 🙂 I have an only child – daughter- so it is fun to see what a household of 4 girls is up to!! I actually ran into Madison in Anthro the other day – recognized her eyes and fabulous smile 🙂 She was delightful and sporting Noonday jewelry. We chatted a few minutes as I serve on a non-profit board and try to buy jewelry, etc. that is Fair Trade or supports programs like Noonday promotes.

Donna - My sister and I are 10 years apart and very close. She lives in another state now but we text, call, and send gifts. We can not see each other for a year and then walk in with the same purse. Nothing better than a sister to share things with except maybe a daughter or a Mom. I thank God for this relationship.

Donna - Your daughters are absolutely gorgeous , all of them.

Ella - Caroline & Savannah are amazing. I love the photos of them acting silly together.
Caroline’s style is too cute. She might have learned from her Mom, owner of cute shirts (& boots). I love her braid.(I did not either look this cute at 12.)Amazing how she can do makeovers.
Sounds like they had a good time together. There is nothing like an outing with sisters

Donna - Loving your blog and posts since I found it.!

Jen@thecottagenest - First off, I don’t even have any idea who the Imagine Dragons are. So, so out of touch. Our bookends (although I have no books inbetween) are almost exactly the same ages. Em is 13 today and Maddie will be 21 in July. They are the very best of friends which is something I never even dreamed would happen. I always wished for a sister and was so happy to get to parent sisters! What a blessing and you are blessed times 4!
