i shared a little earlier this fall about my trip to seattle. you can see images from my shoot with emily’s family here & here
to say that week was a photographers dream & a highlight in my professional career would be an incredible understatement.
being a lover of stories i’d love to share a little of the backstory here. if you already know all this i apologize. sometimes i can’t remember what i’ve already shared & what i haven’t.
when emily & i spoke about my availability for travel there was really only 1 3day open span. i also was super concerned about the weather. we’re talking the PNW, in november friends. the odds of rain, or atleast gloomy weather, are high. emily was so sweet & responded with “well if it rains, consider this a mini vacation for you”. well. i had 3 beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, days to shoot. chilly but perfectly sunny! while this may not wow you, i was beyond wowed!
kc & emily are besties and we had two different times set up for shoots depending on when they’re hubbies were off work. shooting in a brand new location, one that i haven’t scoped out for lighting can be intimidating. for me anyways. the evening emily drove me around to look at possible places it was dark & wet and well, gloomy of course. so i tried to figure out which way the sun would set, etc. when i saw this location, with the dilapidated homes in a wide open field, with “no trespassing” signs, i went nuts & knew i had to shoot here. i called kc & lobbied hard for her family to use this spot. complete with juxtaposed long formal gowns & riding boots, velvet jackets & jeans.
i headed over to kc’s house to spend a little time with the children and found them reading. so, i asked if we could bring some of their books. i absolutely love capturing people doing what they love to do….plus it’s a super way to get kiddos involved in your shoot in a different way than ” ok kids. look here & say cheese”.
the sunset was absolutely magical. magical. i told kc as we began to shoot that this was exactly what my minds-eye had envisioned for them.
laughter. velvet. story time. hugs. sunset. and a magical storybook afternoon.
enjoy.

dr seuss. oh the places you’ll go.
